Here is the key to be the best manager you can be: manage individuals, not people. If you manage people, you manage in mass, but each individual employee you have is just that – an individual. The only way to effectively and positively manage them is to learn about them as a unique individual. Here are the 3 secrets you need to know to best manage individuals:

  1. What motivates each one of them -do they thrive on public praise, money or challenges?
  2. How do they excel -do they need to be mentored or do thrive best when left to their own creativity?
  3. What management skills really annoy them?

How do you find out what works best for each employee? ASK! And then, listen, and adapt your coaching, motivation and compensation to match that individual’s needs.  There is no one-size-fits-all in a world where everyone is unique.
