Do you feel forced to choose between work and a satisfying personal life?  It’s great to be a dedicated employee and to love your job, but at what cost?  You don’t have to miss out on life – you just need to find the balance. Here are 4 strategies to help you:

  1. Redefine your life balance – there are times when you need to be in “high gear” at work (deadlines, start-up, etc.) but this should not be the norm.
  2. Adjust your perspective – down time is crucial to your emotional and mental health plus you will be more productive when at work. Remember, you don’t need money to enjoy dinner with the family or a good work-out.
  3. Imagine letting go but not losing control – consider shortening your work hours or taking a few days off. How bad could it really be at work? There may be a bump here or there, but learn to say it’s okay and learn to adjust for changes.
  4. Give your personal life a little business treatment – Make a list of the people and activities closest to your heart and then carve out time in your weekly schedule to enjoy them. Work out what needs to be done at work to make this happen.

Sometimes it’s as simple as letting go of the tasks that someone else should be doing or documenting the task for a co-worker. The key is to enjoy each moment of the precious freedom that you deserve.
