Thank You! The Power of Praise

Daily Read – Thank You!

New research is out showing “that thanking and rewarding employees can give your business a boost”. I’m not sure that this is ‘breaking news”.  This seems like common sense to me, perhaps something good manners would have taught us. But, a closer look shows that companies that excel at employee recognition are 12 times more likely to generate strong business results than those that do not. Wow! Pretty significant! So what traits do these “high-recognition culture” companies share?

  1. They build recognized programs which collect thank you’s and feedback from peers, not just managers.
  2. They directly tie recognition to business goals and company values (reinforcing strategy).
  3. They give employees open and transparent access to the program, i.e.; everyone can see who is being recognized and anyone can recognize another.

But to really praise like a pro be specific and know your people; consider the delivery (it may vary from person to person), and get everyone involved!
