Long-term plans for growth strategy are important, and sometimes this means we need to re-align our organization around our top priorities when developing an execution plan that supports this strategy. A good plan will probably require you to disrupt existing routines and responsibilities, which can ruffle some feathers. Here are 3 factors to keep in mind to make the change more welcome and successful:

  1. Create a sense of urgency. Build momentum (and excitement) early in the process.
  2. Don’t build a business on a “burning” platform. Executing on growth plans or a new product offering may require creating a distinct business unit. Since you want to enter the market before it’s hot you want to invest as soon as possible in long-term strategies to stay ahead of your rivals.
  3. Don’t be afraid to cannibalize your existing business. You’ve read this before on my blog – it’s important to innovate and constantly stay atop of customers’ needs and demands, evolving your own products and services.

While change can be uncomfortable it’s the change that brings about true growth! Not the status quo.
