Even small business owners who don’t consider themselves innovative or creative can have great ideas and tremendous payoffs simply by being more observant — willing to test and measure what works and what doesn’t. By sticking with the basics and then combining existing assets or resources you can generate new ideas, products or services. Here are five ways to get you to think, move and generate new ideas:

  1. Get inspired by other industries.
  2. Mine your customers’ needs. Listen to customer’s opinions, selection even complaints.
  3. Listen to your team. Especially when it comes to ideas in productivity and efficiency in process or operations.
  4. Hit the books. Don’t overlook the value of workshops, conferences and books or blogs.
  5. Find yourself a trusted advisor. An outside perspective can add value and suggestions you may not have thought of.
