Watch any sports event and you will see winners, whiners, and teams making smart and dumb choices. The winner will be the team or the player that’s best prepared, makes the fewest mistakes, stays steady and keeps its cool. The team or the player that creates breaks and takes advantage of them, prepares one razzle-dazzle play, takes the risk at the opportune time, and pulls it off, has the most dedicated players and the best coach. The same hold true in sales. You don’t have to be the smartest to be the winner; you just have to work the smartest.

S – SMILE. Be warm and approachable.

M – MAKE FRIENDS. Create a friendly dialog that results in finding some common ground.

A – Have the ATTITUDE of a WINNER. This means positive, possessing confidence (not cocky), self-belief and being prepared.

R – Take RELATIONSHIP ACTIONS. Be long-term oriented, be ethical, speak the truth, be known for service.

T – TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. For both success and failure.
