You’re starving and still have tons to do before you head out of the office for the weekend so you grab a quick lunch to each at your desk so you can be more productive with your time. Bad idea! Eating at your desk could actually make you less productive. So, how can you gain by stepping away?
You could eat alone— away from a screen. Eating alone not only can help you restore your personal resources, if you resist pulling out your phone, you can actually spur creativity by enjoying a short period of time without the constant stimulation of electronics.
Another option if you must eat through your lunch is to address the afternoon energy crash: You could take a walk or hit the gym, or, alternatively, you could take a 20-minute nap. It will boost your energy and refresh your productivity level.
The half an hour or so you take for lunch or stepping away from your screen may cost you a bit of time now, but it’ll save you more in the long run thanks to the productivity boost you’ll get from refreshing your brain and your body. So, enjoy your lunch!
