Daily ReadHave You Created a Culture of Giving?

When it comes to creating teamwork, a little rivalry never hurt anyone – right? That may not be the best approach when trying to create an atmosphere of teamwork. A better approach to creating a cohesive work environment is to develop a ‘giving culture’. Rather than creating competition among employees you actually develop an environment where employees help each other, share knowledge and mentor with no expectation of anything in return. Here are a few tips to get your started:

Let them cry, “Help!” The first step in eliminating unhealthy competition is creating an atmosphere that allows employees to feel safe admitting that they don’t know it all.

Ditch the selfish creeps. When it comes to your office talent, it’s true that one bad apple can spoil the bunch. Listen for their language to weed them out – words like I and me instead of us and we, can signal a more self-centered person.

Follow the golden rule. The final and most crucial step in establishing a giver culture is to put your money where your mouth is. The role-modeling lesson here is a powerful one: If you want it, go and give it.
